STRIPPIN’ & BALLET

I remember getting ready to go to dance class. I would pack my jazz shoes, tap shoes, and finally my ballet shoes. My mother would drive me there and I’d have to take three different classes in one. Looking back, I should’ve pushed myself into socializing more. but that’s the past, I Will Push Myself even further for myself in the present, future, and past.

That’s enough about me let’s talk serious: I see a lot of discussions about sex work, specifically talking about strippers and how much they are taken advantage of. Prostitution is one of the oldest, if not the oldest profession in the world. Yet we don’t have unions, workers rights, no nothing for these ladies, and sometimes gentlemens. I see a lot of feminists say they want sex work gone completely, as it’s not a safe profession for women and it reduces them down to only their bodies being playthings for men.

While I don’t disagree, I think if sex work stays, the workers should have more rights than what they have now. It should be treated as an actual professional job with paid leave, days you can take off, benefits, holidays off and more. It should be taken seriously! That is my stance. No job is an odd job. Every one of them are equally important.

But one profession I don’t hear about often, is ballet dancers. I find it strange how often in movies && shows, the ballerina is romanticized. She is graceful, beautiful, every move she makes is like music for the eyes and soul. She spends her days tirelessly rehearsing her moves. But these girls are also abused? I am very sure it’s commonplace for ballet dancers to be mistreated, especially back when social media wasn’t everywhere. I’d even go as far to suggest strippers and ballerinas are very similar. If you think about it.

I guess one of the few, and very stark differences between the two are how both are seen.
